The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for parts of McKinley County for Sept. 14 due to thunderstorms.
Residents can expect flash flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other areas with poor drainage and low-lying areas.
The areas that may experinece flash flooding include Gallup, Church Rock, Red Rock State Park, Gamerco, Metmore, Red Rock, and Allison Road. The affected area also includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 13 and 30.
The Gallup Police Department has identified the following streets and intersections as completely flooded:
- South First Street and Highway 66
- Ford Drive and Highway 66
- East Aztec Avenue and Boardman Drive
- North Sixth Street and Maloney Avenue
- Arnold Street and West Highway 66
- Greet Street and First Street
- Valley View Drive and Aztec Avenue
- Seventh Street and Maloney Avenue
- Burke Drive and East Aztec Avenue
The public is asked to avoid these areas and to excercise extreme caution during this weather event.
