EDITORIAL ASSISTANT
Calling all wordsmiths! The Gallup Sun seeks a dedicated Editorial Assistant (EA) to support our Managing Editor before, during, and after weekly production. This is a 1099 contractor position with potential for full time employment. Because of the extensive training involved, we are looking for serious candidates only.
Schedule Requirements: Must be available 5 days a week. Open availability is required Tuesday–Thursday (including some evenings).
Once fully trained, the EA will fill in for the Managing Editor during vacations or time off.
Key Responsibilities:
- Copy and developmental editing.
- Article writing and fact-checking.
- Formatting press release stories and assisting with weekly production.
- Collaborating effectively in a fast-paced newsroom.
Qualifications:
Minimum 6 months of reporting/editing experience preferred. An editing test will be given if you’re selected for an interview.
Proficiency with: Google Workspace, Google Docs, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, and WhatsApp. Knowledge of AP Style. We will train the right candidate.
Must pass a drug test and criminal background check.
