Leopoldo “Leo” Duran, of Greenville, KY, died April 11. He was 84. He was born in Gallup on July 10, 1941. Leopoldo was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Martha Duran; his first wife Sharon Duran; and his son Mark Duran. He is survived by his wife Jackie; his son Kevin (Tammy); his granddaughters Taylor Massey (Jordan) and Kendra Duran; and his grandson Tanner Duran. A funeral service will be held at St. Francis Church June 12. It will start with a rosary and then mass will begin at 11 am.
Chewie is a 4.5-month-old pup found at the Magic Laundromat with his siblings. Chewie is such a sweet boy. He loves affection. He meets you at the front of his kennel. For the 2025-2026 academic year, UNM-Gallup issued a total of 420 awards, including 29 high school equivalency diplomas, 87 certificates, 288 associate degrees, and 16 bachelor’s degrees among the graduating class. Staff Reports A woman with previous felony charges is now facing additional charges after her probation officers reportedly found a stolen gun at her house. On May 14, around 12:45 pm, Gallup Police Officer Daniel Brown was dispatched to the 500 block of JM Montoya Blvd. after a probation officer reported that a juvenile had a gun at one of his probation stops. Staff Reports A Gallup man is facing multiple charges after he reportedly threatened law enforcement officers with a gun when they tried to arrest him for an outstanding warrant. On May 13, around 12 pm, the local Violent Gang Task Force, which is made up of Gallup Police officers, McKinley County Sheriff’s deputies, and FBI agents, assisted the Fugitive Apprehension Team from Adult Probation and Parole at a house in the 2000 block of Boyd Avenue in looking for a man by the name of Billy Gonzales. Staff Reports Featured DWI May 24, 8:35 pm Aggravated DWI (Second) Gallup Police responded to a call of a reckless driver and eventually arrested a Gamerco man for his second DWI. Officer Maurie Rangel was on patrol when she responded to a call near the 600 block of Susan Avenue. The calling party reportedly said a silver Nissan passenger car had been driving recklessly and nearly collided with their vehicle.
