Aggravated DWI (Third)
An Albuquerque man was pulled over and arrested for his third DWI after an officer located him driving recklessly on a local highway.
McKinley County Sheriff’s Officer Frank Villa Jr. was driving northbound near mile marker 3.5 of U.S. Highway 491 when he saw a white Nissan SUV traveling southbound at a high speed and passing other vehicles on the shoulder.
Villa turned around and followed the SUV, eventually stopping it near the intersection of U.S. Highway 491 and Carbon Coal Road.
He met the driver, Douglas Trujillo, 24, and began questioning him. The man was reportedly only partially clothed. As he spoke, Trujillo reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and smelling of alcohol. Trujillo reportedly initially denied drinking, but eventually told Villa he drank two Mike’s Hard Lemonades and a shot prior to driving.
While looking in the vehicle, Villa reportedly saw an unclothed female passenger in the backseat attempting to dress herself. Trujillo reportedly told the deputy that the woman was his girlfriend and that they had been “doing the nasty.” The vehicle search turned up three empty 100-milliliter bottles of 99 Apples.
Trujillo reportedly declined to perform Standard Field Sobriety Tests as well as the breath test. Based on the investigation and his refusal, Villa placed him under arrest. The passenger was transported to detox by another officer.
Once the paperwork was finished, Villa transported Trujillo to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for aggravated DWI (third), failure to maintain lane, driving while license revoked, and open container.
His pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 29.
