WASHINGTON D.C. — President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for the Zuni Pueblo after flooding damaged at least 20 homes in July.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Oct. 8 that federal disaster assistance is available to pueblo members. It’s to help with recovering from severe storms and flooding that hit July 16-21.
The president approving the declaration means federal funding is available to people. That includes money for temporary housing, home repairs, and replacing personal property.
“The Pueblo of Zuni is also eligible to receive federal funding on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms and flooding,” FEMA stated.
Any tribal member who sustained losses “on or near the designated areas,” should first file a claim with their insurance provider.
