Celeste Sandoval was picked for the Student Athlete of the Week. She was picked because of her dedication to getting things done on time, helping younger players by welcoming them, and the fact that she stepped up as a captain.

Name: Geneva Nabours
Sport: Volleyball
Grade: Senior
Geneva helped her team take 4th place in the Tucumcari tournament over the Aug. 28 weekend. The Ramah Mustangs played three pool play matches and three full games. Geneva had some amazing blocks in every game that they played. She reads the court very well, which no other player has done yet this year. She is a team leader and gave her all in the tournament. Finally, she was one of two all-tourney players for the Mustangs.

School: Tohatchi High
Name: Mylya Lee
Sport: Volleyball
Grade: Junior
Mylya Lee may be a quiet junior, but she is anything but quiet on the volleyball court. Against Pojoaque Valley, Mylya gave Tohatchi a much-needed boost with 14 kills, 8 defensive plays that led to side-outs, and 3 straight aces. Her ability to contribute offensively, defensively, and from the service line makes her a valuable asset to the team.

Staton Yazzie may be a freshman, but he runs with the poise and confidence of a senior. Staton’s presence and performance contributed to Thoreau finishing 3rd out of 17 teams at the ATC Invite Aug. 29.
