BRINGING FENTANYL PILLS TO PROBATION CHECKIN
Gallup, June 18
A woman who was checking in with her probation officer was reportedly caught with fentanyl pills inside her purse.
On June 18, Gallup Police Narcotics Agent Timothy Hughte was on duty when he received a call from the Probation Office about a woman who had violated her probation by having fentanyl on her at the time of her check-in. The woman was identified as Shayanne Nelson, 26.
When Hughte arrived at the office he met with the probation officer, who showed him the items Nelson reportedly had in her possession: a purse, a digital scale, and a long glass smoking pipe with black residue on it. The parole officer said he also found a small pint of alcohol and some blue pills, which he identified as fentanyl.
Nelson reportedly admitted to selling the pills because she’s homeless and that’s how “she makes ends meet.”
According to Hughte’s report, Nelson said her personal drugs of choice were alcohol and methamphetamine, and she only sold the fentanyl, again to make ends meet.
Nelson reportedly told Hughte she wanted to change her ways, but that she was finding it difficult to do so. When Hughte asked her where she gets her drugs from, Nelson only said she gets them from random people on the street; she wouldn’t name a specific person.
Officers found a total of 40 fentanyl pills inside Nelson’s purse.
Nelson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and a second offense of trafficking a controlled substance. Her preliminary hearing for these new charges is scheduled for July 1 in Gallup Magistrate Court.
INTOXICATED OR SCHIZOPHRENIC?
Gallup, June 16
A Gallup Police officer arrested a woman after she allegedly kicked him when he accused her of being intoxicated.
On June 16, around 6:45 pm, Gallup Police Officer Kyle Delgai was dispatched to the New Mexico Human Services Department, located at 3006 E. Hwy. 66 after a woman reportedly showed up to the office intoxicated. She was allegedly spitting on people. The woman was eventually identified as Mara Joe, 43.
When Delgai arrived at the scene he reportedly found Joe outside the business talking to her own reflection in one of the business’ windows.
Delgai spoke to one of the Human Services Department employees, and he said Joe had been fine when she first entered the business, but then she began spitting, yelling, and cursing at customers and employees.
When Delgai spoke to Joe, she allegedly said she came to the business for assistance. He informed her that the business wanted to serve her a trespass notice. According to his report, Delgai could smell alcohol on Joe’s person, and she allegedly had empty alcohol bottles in her cart.
Delgai told Joe she wasn’t under arrest, but that he was going to escort her to the Gallup detox facility. That’s when Joe reportedly pulled away from him, and he tried to remove her backpack from her back. She reportedly said she wasn’t intoxicated, and that she was schizophrenic.
While Delgai was still trying to get Joe into his patrol vehicle, she reportedly kicked backwards, striking Delgai’s right thigh. Her kick allegedly left a shoe print marking.
Other officers arrived on scene to assist Delgai, and Joe was placed in handcuffs. As she was placed in handcuffs, Joe told the other officers that Delgai had tried to pull her pants down.
Joe was eventually transported to the Gallup Detox Center, but staff there reportedly told the officers that Joe had just come from there, and that she wasn’t intoxicated. She reportedly refused the business initially.
Delgai eventually learned that Joe had a warrant out for her arrest out of San Juan County. Her warrant was signed on May 27.
Joe was arrested for her outstanding warrant, battery upon a police officer, and disorderly conduct. Delgai transported her to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center. Her preliminary hearing in Gallup Magistrate Court is scheduled for July 8.
DOING DRUGS IN A STOLEN CAR
Gallup, June 5
Two men were arrested for possession of a controlled substance after they were caught driving an allegedly stolen vehicle with drugs in it.
On June 5, around 1:15 pm, McKinley County Sheriff’s deputies informed Gallup Police Officer Lionel Desiderio that they had found an abandoned vehicle at the Speedway located at 3798 E. Hwy. 66. The vehicle was a black Ford F-150 pickup truck. It had reportedly been stolen from a Speedway in Tse Bonito around 10:30 am that day.
When the deputies stopped the vehicle, they found two men inside, Rex Nelson II and Darrick Woodie. Woodie, 45, was allegedly placing items in the back of the truck’s cab. The deputies immediately detained him.
The truck’s owner gave Desiderio permission to search his truck.
When officers searched the truck, they reportedly found a pair of jeans inside a backpack. Two plastic baggies were found inside the jeans, and one of them allegedly contained a glass-like substance, which Desiderio identified as methamphetamine. In total, the truck had 0.5 grams of methamphetamine inside it.
Officers also found a black box inside the truck, which held some aluminum foil inside it. Officers reportedly found a small blue melted pill inside the aluminum foil, and a glass pipe, which contained some white and black substances.
Woodie and Nelson, 46, were both arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Both of their initial preliminary examinations were scheduled for June 17 in Gallup Magistrate Court. Both of their second preliminaries examinations were then scheduled for July 15.
