She was born in Fort Defiance, Ariz. on Sept. 10, 1981. She was born into the Red Running into the Water people clan – Tabaahii – Water Edge clan – Ta chii ni.
Raquel was preceded in death by her father Reuben Begaye; her sister Rana Duarte; and her paternal grandmother Ruby Begay. She is survived by her mother Berlina Yazza; her sister Robyn Tso; her brothers Lyle and Shawn Begay; her daughter Savaera Byrd; and her maternal grandmother Charlotte Cayatineto.
A funeral service was held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Mission on Sept. 19.
