Aggravated DWI (Third)
A Gallup man was arrested for his third DWI after a Gallup Police officer reported seeing his passenger nearly fall from a moving pickup truck outside a local liquor store.
Officer Patrick Largo was conducting a welfare check at Paramount Liquor, 3090 W. Hwy. 66, when he observed a white GMC Sierra in the parking lot. A male passenger was reportedly trying to get into the truck when the vehicle suddenly moved forward about two feet. The passenger fell from the open door before getting back inside.
Largo stopped the truck before it left the parking lot and met the driver, Dennison Cadman, 63. As he spoke to him, Largo reportedly observed Cadman show signs of intoxication including slurred speech and smelling of alcohol.
Cadman reportedly admitted he drank “four or five” Bud Lights about four hours prior to the stop. He also reportedly said that his driver’s license was suspended.
When offered a chance to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Cadman refused. He was placed under arrest at the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed an open container of Michelob Ultra and a case of Bud Light Platinum bottles.
Largo transported Cadman to the local New Mexico State Police office for the breath test, where Cadman posted samples of .23 and .22. Metro Dispatch later advised Largo that Cadman had an outstanding McKinley County Magistrate Court warrant for failure to appear and failure to pay.
After completing the paperwork, Largo transported Cadman to McKinley County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for aggravated DWI (third), careless driving, no license, and open container.
His pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 8.
