ALBUQUERQUE — A Zuni man pleaded guilty to assaulting and seriously injuring a woman in 2024.
According to court documents, on June 11, 2024, Karl Devain Escobar, 33, an enrolled member of the Zuni Pueblo, assaulted a woman at a residence in Zuni, New Mexico, by repeatedly hitting her on the back of the head, causing her to pass out. The assault resulted in serious bodily injury which required medical treatment.
Escobar pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury Sept. 22. At sentencing Escobar faces up to 10 years in prison.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Mondragon is prosecuting the case.
