The FBI and its law enforcement partners are announcing the results of Summer Heat 2.0, a four-month violent crime initiative that resulted in nearly 9,000 arrests, the seizure of deadly fentanyl and cocaine, and over 5,000 dangerous illegally possessed weapons taken off American streets.
“This year’s Summer Heat was our second straight nationwide offensive to crush violent crime all over the country, and the results were outstanding,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Even after last year’s unprecedented numbers, all 56 FBI field offices stepped up and delivered even higher numbers this year—arresting almost 9,000 subjects, up 3% from Summer Heat last year; seizing 63% more fentanyl; identifying or locating 1,410 children, 34% higher than last year; and recovering over 5,000 weapons, up 120% from 2025.”
Between June 1 and Sept. 20, the FBI and its 56 field offices surged resources alongside state and local partners to execute federal warrants on violent criminals and fugitives, dismantle violent gangs and transnational criminal organizations, identify and rescue child victims, and resolve violent crime cases in Indian Country.
The FBI’s Summer Heat 2.0 initiative achieved additional victories with 687 kilograms of fentanyl seized: an amount equal to 52 million lethal doses. Of the almost 9,000 arrests, more than 5,900 arrests fell under the FBI’s violent crime and gang program.
The FBI first launched the Summer Heat initiative for three months in 2025 to deploy a multi-pronged offensive to crush violent crime. The announcement of Operation Summer Heat 2.0 results follows on the heels of historic drops in crime across the U.S., according to the FBI’s 2025 UCR Summary of Reported Crimes in the Nation.
