A flood watch will take affect in major cities across New Mexico, including Gallup, starting around noon Sept. 28. It is expected to last until late Sept. 29.
A near-record surge of moisture combined with two merging storm systems will bring a prolonged multi-day period of showers and thunderstorms producing moderate to heavy rainfall. Combined with already rain-soaked soil, there is a moderate to high risk of flash flooding.
Low-lying, poorly drained areas, urban areas, and arroyo systems will be most susceptible. Rivers and streams will see rises, potentially reaching flood stage. Recent burn scars may see flash flooding.
