ALBUQUERQUE — A 15-year-old girl died and three others were criticially injured following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection during the late hours of Sept. 26 near Coors and Bridge boulevards in southwest Albuquerque, according to police.
The crash occured shortly before midnight. Investigators said an orange Ford Mustang was traveling south on Coors Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light at Bridge Boulevard and struck the passenger side of a white GMC pickup truck.
The 15-year-old passenger of the Mustang died at the hospital, while another passenger, a 16-year-old girl, suffered life-threatening injuries. The 18-year-old driver who ran the red light was critically injured and remained hospitalized in stable condition.
KOB 4 reporter Zach Rael later identified the 15-year-old victim in a Facebook post as Keyarah Chavez, a sophomore at Atrisco Heritage Academy.
The pickup’s driver, a 24-year-old man, was also critically injured and was listed in stable condition.
The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Unit is investigating.
