25-year-old opens new business in Gallup

Gallupians now have a chance to eat something they may have never experienced before: crepes.
The idea came from Nemo Muhsin, who has lived in Gallup for about 16 years. After moving from Hawaii, he soon realized that while Gallup boasts plenty of ice cream spots, the town lacked ice cream’s healthier cousin—frozen yogurt—as well as crepes.
“I wanted to bring something new to the town, a nice little stop for people where they can come have a sweet and hang out,” Muhsin said.
Thus, Sugar House was born.
It took Muhsin about a year to turn his idea into a reality. The business’ opening day was June 20. The business is located at 2020 E. Hwy. 66. As part of their grand opening, customers could enter their names into a raffle to win gift cards from other local businesses, such as Scooter’s BBQ and Fratelli’s Bistro. They even gave away a 50” smart T.V.
However, launching the shop required some serious heavy lifting. The building previously housed a KFC, and Muhsin noted that he and his team had to completely tear down and rebuild the structure due to its poor condition.
At only 25 years old, Muhsin is a first-time business owner. His concept differs from other local frozen treat spots because the large space offers families and friends a comfortable place to sit down and hang out while they enjoy their snacks.
The dessert shop features frozen yogurt with a variety of toppings, crepes, Dubai chocolate strawberries, coffee, milkshakes, and other specialty drinks. Item prices range from $5 to about $15.
So far, Muhsin says business has been great.
“My favorite part so far has been serving everyone and seeing everyone’s reaction to the food we offer,” he said. “The support has been really amazing.”
Sugar House is open seven days a week. Operating hours are 11 am to 10 pm Sunday through Thursday, and 11 am to 11 pm. on Friday and Saturday.
