Zuni Pueblo residents evacuate

Heavy monsoon thunderstorms flooded Gallup streets and some homes July 20 and 21.
The flooding cancelled the July 21 Summer Indian Dances.
Gallup Police also asked people with non-emergency reports to wait until conditions improve and urged people to stay where they are if possible.
Gallup reportedly received 1.9” of rain July 21.
Evacuations were ordered for parts of the Zuni Pueblo due to emergency conditions and flash flooding in the area July 21.
According to the Zuni Pueblo, all residents of the following areas were advised to evacuate immediately— St. Anthony, Old Gallup Road, Chavez Circle, and State Highway 53 Corridor.
Those who were evacuated were told to go to the Zuni Community Center.
More flooding is possible later this week, as the forecast shows rain up until July 29.
