Aggravated DWI (Second)
Gallup Police responded to a call of a reckless driver and eventually arrested a Gamerco man for his second DWI.
Officer Maurie Rangel was on patrol when she responded to a call near the 600 block of Susan Avenue. The calling party reportedly said a silver Nissan passenger car had been driving recklessly and nearly collided with their vehicle. Rangel arrived at the scene and met both the caller and the suspect, Isaiah Denney, 20.
The caller stated that after the near collision they followed Denney to the lot where he was unable to maintain his lane. Then when he exited his vehicle, he allegedly appeared to stagger. Rangel then spoke to Denney, who didn’t provide identification and reportedly admitted to drinking an unspecified amount of alcohol about two hours prior to driving.
Denney refused to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, and he was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle turned up an empty container of Four Loko. At the police department, Denney agreed to the breath test, where he posted samples of .23, .26, and .24. Metro Dispatch also advised Rangel that Denney had an active warrant out of Gallup Magistrate Court.
After completing the paperwork, Rangel transported Denney to McKinley County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for aggravated DWI (second), open container, driving while license revoked, and no insurance. His pretrial hearing is set for June 30.
