A woman with previous felony charges is now facing additional charges after her probation officers reportedly found a stolen gun at her house.
On May 14, around 12:45 pm, Gallup Police Officer Daniel Brown was dispatched to the 500 block of JM Montoya Blvd. after a probation officer reported that a juvenile had a gun at one of his probation stops. According to Brown’s report, the probation officer was trying to check up on Alyssia Bryant, 28.
When he arrived at the scene Brown met Bryant in the driveway and she let him inside the house, where he met with the minor who was in possession of the gun.
The probation officer said the minor had been in Bryant’s room when he made the call. The minor reportedly grabbed the gun and put it in his waistband. The gun was a Springfield Armory U.S.A. XD Semi-Auto Pistol. According to Brown’s report, the magazine was fully loaded, but there was no round in the chamber.
The minor reportedly said he found the gun on Ford Drive.
When Brown ran the firearm through Metro Dispatch it came back as stolen through the National Crime Information Center out of the Santa Fe Police Department.
Brown then went to speak to the minor, who said he’d found the gun in a box by the apartment dumpster at Ford Canyon Park. He reportedly said he found the day before around 5 or 6 pm.
He allegedly said there were three or four magazines, and Brown asked to see them. The young man took Brown upstairs and showed him the magazines.
Bryant was arrested at 1:30 pm. She is a convicted felon, as she was previously convicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon out of Bernalillo County Magistrate Court.
According to Brown’s report Bryant said she didn’t know about the firearm being in her home. She was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon and receiving stolen property. Her preliminary hearing for the new charges is scheduled for June 17.
