The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for parts of McKinley County for Aug. 12. The affected area starts south of Farmington and goes all the way to Truth and Consequences, including Gallup and Grants.
Showers and thunderstorms will develop over the area then move slowly northward across western New Mexico through the evening of Aug. 12. Rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour will occur, with the heavier storms. Repeated rounds of heavy rainfall are possible in some areas.
The flood watch will take affect at 1 pm and last until the evening.
Execessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, rivers, streams, and other low-lying and flood prone locations.
Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
