Dear Editor,
This Teacher Appreciation Week, I’d like to express my gratitude for the teachers of Destinations Career Academy of New Mexico My ninth-grade daughter, Kelsie, has been enrolled at the K12-powered online school for four years, and my husband and I have been continuously impressed with teachers’ communication, punctuality, concern for Kelsie’s individual needs, and love for teaching.
We didn’t always know our path would lead us to virtual education. From homeschooling while we lived in China, to a brick-and-mortar school in Texas – we’ve gained a unique perspective on what education looks like. When we moved to Gallup, we decided to try virtual school. Initially, we were hesitant about what it would entail, but Kelsie’s experience has been exceptional – and it’s because of the NMDCA teachers.
Just recently, Kelsie won first place in her school’s writing competition. This was a tremendous platform for my daughter to showcase her creativity, which has always been encouraged by her teachers.
Kelsie’s passion for learning has grown tenfold in the last few years. In Ms. Cottrill’s 6th- and 7th-grade art classes, Kelsie’s artistic abilities were strongly encouraged, and her drawing and painting skills improved considerably. Mr. Berry, Kelsie’s 7th-grade history teacher, was so vibrant and knowledgeable in his lessons that I enjoyed listening to the lectures myself. And this year, Kelsie is taking such an interest in her math class with Mrs. Booth, who constantly goes the extra mile when Kelsie needs help.
It is abundantly clear that NMDCA teachers are not only performance-driven and tech-savvy, but also compassionate, valuing the connections they build with students and their families. Each one has left a profound imprint on Kelsie’s experience thus far.
Thank you, teachers of NMDCA for helping my daughter, and so many others, thrive and succeed. We appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Steven and Cora Annichiarico
