RUNNING FROM THE POLICE
Gallup, April 28
A man who reportedly got into a fight ran from police and had to be tased before he was arrested.
On April 28, around 4 pm, Gallup Police Officer Christopher Dawes was dispatched to Albertsons, 1702 E. Hwy. 66, after a man was reportedly seen running around with a knife. He also reportedly got into a fight near the Red Rock Security Office (124 Boardman Dr.). The man, who was eventually identified as Alvin Mariano, was reportedly wearing khakis, a black sweater, and he had face tattoos.
While Dawes was searching for Mariano, 42, someone reportedly called Metro Dispatch and said he was running behind the Domino’s located at 915 E. Hwy. 66.
When Dawes arrived at the restaurant, he parked his car and then ran down to the open field area west of the business. As he approached the tunnel that went under the train tracks, he found Officer Patrick Largo running through the tunnel. Dawes followed Largo, and the two officers found footprints that ran through the sand that went up towards the train tracks.
The officers eventually located Mariano as he was trying to climb over a metal fence.
As Dawes approached Mariano he reportedly pulled out his taser. Mariano reportedly had a knife. Dawes told Mariano not to move, and to get down on the ground.
Mariano reportedly put his hand in his pocket, and Dawes told him not to do that.
Officers surrounded Mariano, and Dawes and Largo deployed their tasers on him. Officers were then able to handcuff him.
An ambulance was called, and EMTS began checking Mariano over, but he reportedly became disorderly with them after they asked him if he wanted a BandAid for his injury from where the tasers hit him.
Mariano reportedly had two warrants out for his arrest from Gallup Magistrate Court. He was arrested and placed into a public safety officer’s van. He reportedly kicked a patrol unit.
He was transported to a local hospital, and once he was medically cleared Dawes drove him to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for his active warrants, four counts of assault upon a peace officer, and four counts of resisting arrest.
Mariano’s pretrial hearing for his eight new charges is scheduled for June 2 in Gallup Magistrate Court.
EARLY MORNING TRESPASSING
Gallup, March 30

An unhoused woman was arrested for reportedly trying to enter into a home in which she wasn’t welcome.
On March 30, around 7 am, McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Miguel Bittony was dispatched to a house on Coal Basin Road after a woman was reportedly caught trespassing. The person who had called Metro Dispatch said the woman, who was identified as Hannah Baade, was yelling and banging on the house’s windows. The trespass notice had been signed on March 4.
When Bittony arrived at the scene he found Baade, 33, walking around. According to his report, he informed her that she couldn’t be at the residence.
Baade sat down on the curb and reportedly became emotional, crying and screaming. She said to “let her go.” Bittony told her she was under arrest for trespassing.
Baade reportedly began talking about “running from people” and said that her car had been stolen.
Bittony called for an ambulance because he allegedly noticed that Baade had some burnt aluminum foil, and that she had “pinpoint pupils,” slurred speech, and sores and scars on her hands. EMTS arrived on the scene and medically cleared Baade.
Bittony arrested Baade for trespassing, and transported her to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center. Her pretrial hearing for the case is scheduled for June 4 in Gallup Magistrate Court.
