Aggravated DWI (second offense)
A 34-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly blocking the entrance of a shopping parking lot with a vehicle while intoxicated and accompanied by a child in Gallup.
Gallup Police Department Officer Tyler Bowman assisted officers who responded to calls about two vehicles – one of which was a gray 2014 Ford – that were blocking the driveway by the Walmart located at 1650 W. Maloney Ave.
Upon Bowman’s arrival, he was informed that officers met with the suspect, who was in the driver’s seat of the Ford, and that she was waiting for her sister who was inside the store.
Police officials said that the suspect, identified as Gabrielle Yazzie, of Gallup, had the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, with red-watery eyes, slurred speech and a child inside the vehicle.
According to a police report, Yazzie was disorderly with an officer, refused offers to take a sobriety test, and resisted arrest before being detained and placed in the back of a patrol car by two officers. When asked to take a breathalyzer test two more times, she refused.
Officers were notified that Yazzie had a warrant out for arrest for aggravated driving while under the influence out of Gallup Magistrate Court. Two officers waited for a family member to pick the child up.
Yazzie was charged on suspicion of aggravated DWI (second), driving while license suspended, and abandonment of a child. She was taken to the GPD for criminal summons then to the McKinley County Detention Center for booking. Her arraignment hearing is set for March 21.
