A Gallup High School student was arrested after they allegedly brought a gun to school.
On March 3, around 11:15 am, Gallup Police officers responded to the Gallup High School, located at 1055 Rico St., after getting reports about the student. When they arrived, they spoke to several students who said they saw a student with a gun. The witnesses instantely reported the situation to school staff and security personnel.
The suspect was apprehended and driven to the Gallup Police Department. Juvenile Probation and Parole authorized the arrest of the juvenile, who was then transported and booked at the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center for unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises, which is classified as a fourth degree felony.
The next day, safety officials at GHS contacted GPD detectives about another student who had been detained. This individual was reportedly captured on video allegedly helping assisting the suspect on March 3 by taking the firearm from the suspect and discarding it in a trash can.
This student was also detained, and Juvenile Probation and Parole authorized his arrest. He was transported to the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of being an accessory to the unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises and tampering with evidence.
