Singer-songwriter Dolly Parton died on Aug. 25. She was 80 years old.
Her family didn’t release a cause of death, but they did say she “died peacefully today in Nashville.”
The annoucement came on her official Instagram, with a video from her nephew Bryan Seaver on behalf of the Patton family.
Per the family’s official obituary, “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience.”
Parton’s career spanned over six decades. She released 50 studio albums, achieved 25 number-one singles, and earned 11 Grammy Awards. Beyond her legendary music career, she was celebrated for her extensive humanitarian work and business ventures, including her world-famous Dollywood Parks and Resorts.
Her foundational hits include “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.”
She holds the rare distinction of being inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Parton’s iconic literacy program has gifted over 200 million free books to children worldwide.
