WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council approved legislation to officially rename the Oak Springs Chapter House as the Oak Springs/Pine Springs Chapter House June 20.
The name change recognizes the communities served by the chapter and affirms its commitment to providing equitable services to residents of both Oak Springs and Pine Springs. The legislation was sponsored by Council Delegate Brenda Jesus.
“I sponsored this legislation to ensure all residents of Oak Springs and Pine Springs are equally recognized and served by their local chapter,” Jesus said. “This name change reflects the people the chapter represents and reinforces our commitment to fair, accessible services for everyone in the Oak Springs/Pine Springs area. I’m grateful to the chapter leadership for their support and to my colleagues on the 25th Navajo Nation Council for unanimously approving this measure.”
The Oak Springs Chapter supported the name change through an official resolution, recognizing the importance of accurately reflecting the communities it serves.
The legislation states that the change will help ensure residents of both Oak Springs and Pine Springs receive equitable representation and services while supporting the chapter’s efforts to address local issues affecting the health, safety, and welfare of its members.
The 25th Navajo Nation Council unanimously approved the legislation under the consent agenda by a vote of 21 in favor and none opposed. Once certified and delivered to the Office of the President and Vice President, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren will have up to 10 calendar days to act on the resolution.
