A man is facing multiple charges after he reportedly hit another man with his car during a heated argument.
On May 10, around 11:15 pm, Gallup Police Officer Jacob Silversmith was dispatched to the Econo Lodge, located at 3101 W. Hwy. 66 after someone reportedly hit a pedestrian with their car. According to Silversmith’s report, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.
When he arrived at the scene Silversmith met with the victim, who had a potentially broken shoulder. He was also reportedly unable to walk due to the impact from the car crash.
The suspect vehicle was a maroon Nissan Rogue that had left the scene heading east on Highway 66. The suspect was identified as Trey Goodluck, 27.
The victim said he’d been hanging out with his girlfriend when Goodluck pulled up and began arguing with the two of them. During the argument, Goodluck reportedly tried to hit the woman with his car, but he missed her. He then reportedly tried to hit the male victim, and missed him too.
Goodluck then reportedly performed a U-turn, drove over the curb, and tried to hit the victim about five more times. He then reportedly sped up, and successfully hit the victim.
The victim said he didn’t know how fast Goodluck was going when he hit him, but he did say he believed Goodluck was trying to kill him. During each attempt, Goodluck allegedly had his tires pointed towards the victim.
Officer Elijah Bowman reportedly located the maroon Nissan Rogue near Scooter’s BBQ, located at 2201 Hwy. 66.
According to Silverman’s report, Goolduck had a strong odor of alcohol coming off of him when Bowman conducted a traffic stop.
There was allegedly debris from the car and pieces of clothing such as glasses and gloves. in the road.
When the female victim spoke to officers, she said she’d been walking back from work along Highway 66 when Goodluck pulled up next to her in his car. She said that Goodluck had been stalking and harassing her. However, she didn’t have a restraining order against him.
The male victim was eventually transported to a hospital via Medstar.
After making sure the male victim received medical attention, Silversmith drove over to where officers had pulled Goodluck over. In his report he stated that the maroon Nissan Rogue had moderate damage to the passenger side’s mirror. This damage reportedly matched up with a piece of mirror that officers found at the crash scene.
Goodluck allegedly refused to do a Standard Field Sobriety Test and “was extremely belligerent.” In his report Silversmith stated that due to Goodluck’s behavior and his past experience with him, he chose not to conduct a Standard Field Sobriety Test.
According to Silversmith’s report, Goodluck did admit to being at the scene of the incident when he asked officers “How’s the guy that was throwing rocks at me?”
Goodluck reportedly had a warrant for his arrest out of McKinley County Magistrate Court.
Officers allegedly found an open container of alcohol in Goodluck’s car. He also allegedly didn’t have insurance or a valid driver’s license.
After Silversmith obtained a warrant for a blood draw, he transported Goodluck to a local hospital for the procedure. Goodluck’s blood samples were sent to the New Mexico State Laboratory for testing.
Silversmith transported Goodluck to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked for his list of charges. Those charges are as follows: great bodily harm by vehicle (under the influence of drugs or alcohol), aggravated assault against a household member (deadly weapon), leaving the scene of an accident knowingly (death or great bodily harm), no driver’s license, no insurance, and open container.
Goodluck’s preliminary hearing in Gallup Magistrate Court is scheduled for June 3.
