ALBUQUERQUE — The numbers are clear – Americans overwhelmingly disagree with racist, violent ICE tactics that are terrorizing communities. Poll after poll after poll show Americans oppose ICE’s excessively violent and racist tactics. Overwhelmingly, voters believe that Trump has made the country significantly worse, in virtually every measurable way. When it comes to immigration, Trump is an abysmal 17 points underwater according to recent data from the New York Times.
As footage of yet another horrific ICE execution came out of Minnesota on Jan. 24, the Trump Administration refuses any and all accountability for excess force and the Republican Party still refuses to address immigration through legislation, willingly turning a blind eye to government murder.
The Democratic Party of New Mexico released the following statement on Jan. 24:
“The Trump Administration tells Americans not to believe what we see with our own eyes. They shot Renee Good in the face and called her a terrorist; J.D. Vance said he was ‘proud’ of ICE for kidnapping 5-year-old Liam Ramos; and just today, masked ICE agents shot a man in the head just for recording them on a sidewalk and Trump lackeys are already telling Americans to disregard proof from multiple video angles.
“DPNM is proud of our New Mexican leaders for standing up against ICE’s terrorization of our communities. Making its way through the Roundhouse this legislative session is House Bill 9, the Immigrant Safety Act, which would prohibit all state and local government agencies from entering into contracts to detain immigrants and also require the cancellation of any existing detention contracts. All three of New Mexico’s Democratic members of the House of Representatives are leading Congressional efforts to impeach Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem.
“As New Mexicans protest against Trump’s masked, racist occupation force in solidarity with Minnesotans, there is no doubt that New Mexico stands firmly against ICE.”
