Crews are planning occasional night work beginning June 26 and lasting through July 19 as they prepare to transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of a project to rebuild nearly three miles of Interstate 40 from milepost 41.921 to milepost 44.867 east of Gallup.
DATES NIGHT WORK IS PLANNED AND TRAFFIC IMPACTS
- JUNE 26 AND 27: 7 pm each evening to 5 am the next morning. Westbound I-40 driving lane will be closed.
- JUNE 30 AND JULY 1: 7 pm each evening to 5 am the next morning. Westbound I-40 driving lane will be closed.
- JULY 7 – 11: 3 am each morning to 7 pm each evening. Westbound I-40 driving lane will be closed.
- July 14-18: 3 am each morning to 7 pm each evening. Westbound I-40 driving lane will be closed.
Crews are scheduled to transition to Phase 2 July 21.
Because traffic on I-40 in this area will be reduced during these dates and times, motorists traveling overnight should expect delays and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations.
FNF Construction is the contractor for this project. The project is designed to reconstruct I-40 with two 12-foot driving lanes with 12-foot inside and outside shoulders on I-40 eastbound and westbound. Construction is expected to last through spring 2026.
