Staff Reports
The Gallup Police Department is warning the public of a scam in which someone is allegedly calling people and saying they are the GPD Chief of Police.
In an April 27 press release, the GPD announced that they had received reports concerning a man who was reportedly posing as the GPD Chief of Police and demanding information from citizens.
The GPD asked people to not answer any of the man’s questions or demands if they receive a similar call.
Law enforcement in New Mexico will never call, text, or email to ask for money; request gift cards, wire transfers, or payment apps; demand personal information; or tell someone they have a warrant out for their arrest and that they must pay immediately.
Anyone who receives a call where someone is demanding any of these things and claiming to be the GPD should hang up immediately and report the call.
And as a reminder, the GPD Chief of Police is Erin Toadlena-Pablo.
Anyone with questions about a call they suspect may be a scam can call Metro Dispatch at (505) 722-2002 or the GPD at (505) 863-9365.
