A man was served with a long list of charges after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed into multiple vehicles, including a police officer’s patrol vehicle, all with a child in the backseat of his car.
On Jan. 27, at approximately 7:50 pm, officers from the Gallup Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident at the Third Street Tavern, located at 510 N. Third St.
While initiating their investigation, a red, older-model Dodge Durango reversed at high speed in the Tavern parking lot, reportedly heading directly towards one of the officers’ marked police vehicles. The red Dodge struck the front passenger side of the police unit and then collided with another parked vehicle.
Despite the officers’ attempts to signal for the driver to stop, the driver continued past them. A pursuit began and eventually concluded near We the People Park when the driver pulled over.
Officers found a child in the vehicle along with the other occupants. The driver, who was eventually identified as Andrew Reeder Jr., 27, was investigated for possible intoxication. Officers also determined that the child’s mother, who was in the vehicle as well, was intoxicated.
Reeder reportedly had two outstanding warrants—one from District Court and another from Municipal Court.
Reeder was arrested for a long list of charges — child abuse, aggravated DWI, no insurance, no registration, no driver’s license, failure to maintain traffic lanes, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, child not in restraint device or seat belt, stop or yield intersection, and leaving the scene of an accident. Reeder’s preliminary hearing in Gallup Magistrate Court is scheduled for Feb. 11.
